About Us

Action for Humanitarian Initiatives-Uganda (AFHI Uganda) is non-governmental organization (NGO) registered by the NGO Board under Ministry of Internal Affairs with Registration NO: 11638. It was established in 2013 to undertake programs that improve the general wellbeing of young people, children, youth and women. Our main areas of focus include preventive health (ASRH &HIV/AIDS), economic strengthening, Entrepreneurship and financial literacy, Environmental protection, education support, Child and Women Rights protection and promotion as well general rights. AFHI Uganda believes in community engagement and action, partnerships and networks creation, awareness raising, advocacy and lobbying, action research as viable strategies to meet its laid down goals and objectives.

Recognising the challenges of the poor, more especially women, Orphans and other vulnerable children including the youth, we formed AFHI-Uganda in 2012 to help mobilise, train, and create awareness about their entitlements. The major focus is on innovation among the vulnerable communities in order to empower them tackle the various challenges they encounter in this lifetime. The organisation was formed as a result of three factors:

  • The need to protect the environment in slums
  • Our experiences as orphans, witnessing first hand our mother’s struggle to nurture us despite their own vulnerabilities to socio-economic constraints
  • Communities need to assess their current socio-economical statuses in order to uncover gaps that might still exists despite the good policies and interventions put in place by the Government of Uganda.
